VP Speech

Transcript of my first town hall speech. Watch me read it on tiktok down below.

Good afternoon everyone,

First, I want to thank our past and current union leadership for the work they’ve done to bring us this far. And to all of you here today—thank you for showing up, for believing in the power of our union.

I’m Scott Allen, and I’ve been an educator since 2003. I’ve taught multiple grade levels and subjects, worked across different districts, and seen firsthand what’s happening to educators. We are overworked, undervalued, and expected to do more with less—while our employer sits complacently from an unearned comfortable position.

Now, I know what a dumpster fire our workplace is. I’m here because I believe we can fight back. When 8th grade didn’t have a rep, I stepped in. When I don’t have the answers, I reach out to other teacher unions because we don’t stand alone—we stand together.

The Vice President isn’t just a title—it’s a job. A job that requires standing up, speaking out, and getting things done. And I will never stop fighting for you—for better working conditions, for real support, for respect.

I’m ready to take on this fight. And I need you with me. Let’s take action. Let’s learn as much as we can about the law, charters, and our corporate overlords. Let’s make our voices and reasonable demands impossible to ignore. Together, we will make this union stronger than ever.

Thank you, and let’s get to work.

About Scott

Scott's story begins in Butte County

He  was born and raised in Butte County, California.

Currently, Scott teaches 8th grade online to 36 students.

Who are the students Scott teaches? Students that could no longer stand being bullied in school. Students that have survived school shootings. Students have flocked to online schools because traditional brick and mortar schools have failed them. It's time to renew their faith in local schools.

Scott’s start to teaching started in elementary school. He was a part of a group of students who went to other local elementary schools to train teachers on conflict management. In high school, Scott stepped up at his church to co teach and lead the 8-9 year old vacation bible school classroom with his cousin.

After high school, Scott worked at his cousin's performing arts centre teaching dance and theatre.

In 2006, Scott left Oroville to attend a private christian college in Lincoln, Nebraska. During that summer, Scott landed a job at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Following that summer, Scott returned to Oroville due to the high cost of that private christian education. When back in Oroville, Scott worked for both the afterschool program and a RadioShack franchise.

Scott left Oroville again In 2009-this time for camp in Arkansas. Scott spent 2 years at Joseph Pfeifer Kiwanis camp learning and crafting his use of reality therapy.

After his two years at camp, Scott returned to Oroville due to family medical issues and his desire to become a teacher.

After returning Scott attended the local community college where he graduated with an Associates degree in Social and Behavioral Science. He transferred to California State University Northridge where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal studies and his multiple subject teaching credential. While earning his Bachelor’s degree, Scott taught PE for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. He spent two years before he earned enough units to be a substitute teacher. Scott was a substitute teacher for 3 years at schools throughout Los Angeles County.

In his first teaching assignment, Scott taught computer science to middle schoolers. Then, he moved to 5th grade, and 3rd grade before coming to teach 3rd grade in Lone Pine. In Lone Pine, Scott fell in love with the eastern Sierra and was disappointed when the district decided not to renew his contract. Scott was blessed to find an online teaching job that allows him to teach from home.
